Set among the open farm fields of Water Mill, this 5,419 square foot family home presented a clear design mandate: create interiors that feel as rooted in the landscape as the house itself. Working alongside architect Jamie Abel and builder East End Building Co, MCD developed a home that is at once refined and livable; generous in scale without feeling formal, layered with collected pieces.
Natural materials ground each room: linen, wood and stone. Vintage pieces and modern art add warmth and personality without competing for attention. Inspired by the landscape, the palette balances soft, sun-bleached tones set against rich navy blues and inky blacks, creating a quiet chiaroscuro that evolves with the changing light throughout the day.
For a family home of this scale in the Hamptons, the goal is balance between beauty and function, between elegance and ease.
