Some of the most rewarding residential design projects begin not with a blank canvas, but with a building that has history. This 100-year-old home in the heart of Sag Harbor Village was reimagined and brought back to life for a growing family, without losing its original character and beauty.
Working with architect Stuart Basseches, Marie-Christine Design approached the renovation as a conversation between old and new. The existing architectural character; millwork, proportion, the particular way light moves through rooms - were all considered while new layers were added with care. The foundation of the interiors were collected vintage pieces that preserve a feeling of history. Rich textiles and materials add warmth without weight. A cohesive palette emerged that drew inspiration from weathered shingles and the salt air that have been softening the edges of the seaside town for generations.
The result is a home that works for a busy family. Embodying classic Sag Harbor interior design that honors history while occupying a distinctly modern sensibility.
